Former WeWork CEO Adam Neumann’s climate-crypto startup, Flowcarbon, is refunding retail investors after failing to launch its token due to poor market conditions, according to a Forbes report published on September 11, 2024.

The Goddess Nature Token and Refund Conditions

Buyers of the startup’s flagship “Goddess Nature Token”—which was marketed as a pioneering step to put carbon credits on the blockchain—have reportedly been contacted over the past month to receive refunds. However, to retrieve their capital, investors must first sign a strict confidentiality agreement and release Flowcarbon from any future legal claims. Flowcarbon representatives stated that offering refunds has been “well known” within the company, attributing the operational delays to unfavorable conditions in the broader carbon credit market.

A Troubled Track Record and the a16z Connection

Since its founding in 2022, it remains highly unclear what milestones, if any, Flowcarbon has actually achieved. It is also unknown whether major venture capital backers, such as Marc Andreessen’s a16z, will receive refunds for their institutional investments. Flowcarbon operates as a separate entity from Neumann’s residential real estate venture, Flow, which has also received significant funding from a16z.
