At the recent Made On YouTube event, YouTube introduced an innovative suite of tools for creators, including a groundbreaking conversational editing feature that allows users to edit video content using natural language.

“Editing a one-hour shoot can often consume over ten hours of time. Imagine if we could streamline that process while still keeping our creative vision intact,” said YouTuber Happy Kelli during her presentation.

How Conversational Editing Works

In a user-friendly chat interface, creators provide the AI with instructions to assist in assembling their videos. For instance, Happy Kelli demonstrated by showcasing footage of her dancing in various outfits and instructing the AI to select the optimal take for each costume. Following that, she incorporates music and transitions that perfectly complement her dance moves.

Creative Control and Flexibility

“If I want to regain more control at any point, I can jump back into the editing timeline and make manual adjustments,” she explained. “Conversational editing transforms the editing experience into a dialogue with an endlessly patient assistant. It acts as a collaborative partner that works alongside you rather than taking over the process.”

This innovative feature can also add text overlays, eliminate speech pauses, and provide contextual suggestions to creators based on their ongoing conversation.
