In a hilarious skit last night, Saturday Night Live lampooned the AI industry’s recent apocalyptic predictions, showcasing cast member Jane Wickline’s impression of Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei.

The segment began with Weekend Update host Michael Che, who hesitantly tackled the pronunciation of Amodei’s name, describing him as someone who “stumbled through a press tour.” During this tour, he appeared to support a former employee’s alarming assertion that artificial intelligence might lead to humanity’s downfall.

Wickline’s portrayal of Amodei featured a striking wig and hesitant responses that occasionally spiraled into dramatic Gollum-like dialogues with her alter ego. At one point, she humorously admitted, “AI is the devil and I its maker.”

In her comedic interpretation, Wickline-as-Amodei reassured the audience that AI leaders are “all on the same page here: We do not condone what we are doing.”

“AI is not a weapon, it’s a tool: A tool for building weapons,” she declared with mock seriousness. “And I urge you to urge me to stop.”

Addressing the purported advantages of AI technology, such as its potential to cure cancer, the fictional version of Amodei quipped, “Put it this way: In 10 years, there’s about a 10% chance that cancer won’t be a problem for anyone.”
