Startups accepted into Silicon Valley accelerator Y Combinator (YC) can now choose to receive their seed funding via stablecoins starting with the upcoming spring batch, YC crypto partner Nemil Dalal told The Block, a move designed to simplify capital transfers for international founders.

The Evolution of YC’s Standard Deal

Y Combinator is famous for its “standard deal”, which offers $500,000 in seed capital to early-stage companies in exchange for a 7% equity stake. Under this new initiative, this benchmark investment is transitioning to the blockchain. Founders will have the flexibility to receive their payouts across three major networks: Base, Solana, and Ethereum.

Why Stablecoins? Empowering Emerging Markets

According to Dalal, utilizing stablecoin transfers provides a highly efficient alternative to traditional banking, particularly for founders operating within emerging markets where legacy financial systems often delay wire transfers. This update also aligns with YC’s broader strategic goals. Last autumn, the accelerator partnered with Base and Coinbase Ventures, actively encouraging developers to build next-generation, on-chain applications.

A Favorable Regulatory Shift in Silicon Valley

This pivot to on-chain funding comes at a time of renewed enthusiasm for blockchain technology across Silicon Valley. Interest is surging as the United States government has taken steps toward establishing a more formal, transparent, and crypto-friendly regulatory framework for the digital asset industry.
