On Tuesday, e-commerce giant Amazon officially announced the launch of “Amazon Now,” an ultra-fast 30-minute delivery service operating across dozens of U.S. cities to directly challenge quick-commerce rivals like DoorDash and Instacart.

This rapid fulfillment option gives customers access to thousands of products. The inventory includes fresh groceries, daily household essentials, and other high-demand items tailored to local markets.

Where Is Amazon Now Available?

At launch, Amazon Now is widely accessible to shoppers in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, and Seattle. The company is actively expanding the service to Austin, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix. By the end of the year, Amazon aims to scale the service to reach tens of millions of customers as the nationwide rollout continues.

Eligible products are highlighted with distinct “30-minute delivery” banners on both the Amazon mobile app and desktop website. Tailored Amazon Now offers will also dynamically appear to customers as they browse the platform.

The official launch follows initial pilot testing initiated in Seattle and Philadelphia last December. This strategic move positions Amazon to capture market share from established instant-delivery platforms like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart.

Pricing and Fee Structure Compared to Competitors

Amazon Now competes aggressively on pricing. While the 30-minute delivery service is not entirely free, Prime members receive a heavily discounted rate of $3.99 per order, compared to $13.99 for non-Prime customers. For orders totaling under $15.00, an additional small-order fee applies: $1.99 for Prime members and $3.99 for non-members.

This flat-fee pricing model aims to be more transparent than competitor fee structures. Instant-delivery rivals often apply fluctuating delivery fees, additional service fees, mandatory shopper tips, and marked-up item prices, making Amazon’s flat-fee approach highly competitive for frequent shoppers.

The Logistics Powering Ultra-Fast Shipping

To achieve a 30-minute delivery window, Amazon utilizes a specialized network of smaller, localized fulfillment centers. These facilities are strategically placed closer to dense residential and commercial areas compared to the company’s massive regional warehouses. By curating a targeted selection of high-demand inventory and minimizing transit distances, drivers can complete deliveries much faster.

What Can Customers Order?

The Amazon Now catalog features a wide array of categories, including:

  • Fresh produce, dairy, eggs, and bakery items
  • Over-the-counter healthcare and personal care products
  • Baby care and pet care essentials
  • Consumer electronics and accessories
  • Alcoholic beverages (in permitted jurisdictions)

In most covered geographic areas, the 30-minute delivery option operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Amazon Now is for when you need or want the convenience of getting your Amazon order delivered in 30 minutes or less,” said Udit Madan, senior vice president of Amazon Worldwide Operations. “With thousands of items available for ultra-fast delivery, you can get everything from groceries for dinner, to AirPods before a flight, to household essentials like laundry detergent or toothpaste delivered right to your door.”

Amazon’s Growing Logistics Footprint

The new 30-minute tier joins Amazon’s existing suite of expedited shipping options. The retailer already offers one-hour and three-hour delivery windows on over 90,000 products, alongside same-day delivery on millions of items. Additionally, Amazon continues to test drone deliveries under its Prime Air program, targeting sub-60-minute delivery times in eight U.S. locations.

Global delivery volume for Amazon Prime members reached over 13 billion items via same-day or next-day shipping in 2025. The U.S. market accounted for 8 billion of those shipments, representing a 30% increase year-over-year.
