Meta Announces Subscription Services For Facebook and Instagram

Meta announced at the Shoptalk 2026 conference this week that it is testing new generative AI-driven shopping tools on Instagram and Facebook to boost conversion rates by instantly summarizing product reviews and streamlining checkout for users.

How Meta Uses Generative AI to Summarize Reviews

The tech giant aims to leverage artificial intelligence to guide and influence purchase decisions directly on its social platforms. Under this new test, when a user clicks on an advertisement or visits a brand’s website from Instagram or Facebook, they will see a new pop-up experience featuring detailed product specifications alongside an AI-generated summary of customer reviews.

This approach mirrors Amazon’s 2023 rollout of generative AI to condense product feedback. Instead of forcing shoppers to scroll through hundreds of individual reviews to evaluate a product, Meta’s AI will synthesize public sentiment into a concise, easy-to-read paragraph. The feature presents a brief introduction followed by key bullet points detailing “what people are saying” about the item.

Deepening the In-App Shopping Experience

Meta’s AI integration goes beyond simple review aggregation. The new pop-up layout will also display critical brand details, product recommendations, and active promotions or discounts. Additionally, individual product pages will feature a direct “add to cart” button to minimize friction in the buying process.

Frictionless One-Tap Checkout Integrations

To complement these discovery features, Meta is introducing an optimized checkout system developed alongside major payment processors Stripe and PayPal. This setup allows customers to complete transactions with a single tap without leaving the Instagram or Facebook applications. Meta is also working on expanding these checkout integrations with Shopify and Adyen in future updates.

Importantly, advertisers retain full control over their preferred payment partner. When a buyer taps the “Buy Now” button, the merchant processes and fulfills the order on the backend while the user enjoys an uninterrupted browsing experience inside Meta’s ecosystem.

Expanding Creator Affiliate Programs to Rival TikTok Shop

These checkout optimizations arrive alongside broader updates to Meta’s product discovery ecosystem. To counter growing competition from TikTok, Meta is offering creators an expanded range of affiliate partners on Facebook. Newly added networks in the United States include Amazon, eBay, and Temu, alongside Mercado Libre in Latin America and Shopee in Asia.

Later this year, Instagram will begin testing similar affiliate partnerships with Amazon in the U.S. and Shopee in Asia. Under this model, brand partners select the products they wish to promote and establish commission rates, allowing creators to earn revenue directly from sales driven by their accounts.

Furthermore, Instagram Reels creators in 22 countries will soon gain access to integrated business product catalogs, making it easier than ever to select and tag items directly in their video content.
