Wing and Walmart Expand Drone Delivery to 7 US Cities

Alphabet-owned drone delivery company Wing is expanding its partnership with Walmart to launch autonomous grocery and coffee deliveries in seven new U.S. cities, accelerating a plan to reach 270 locations nationwide by next year due to surging customer demand.

Scaling the Drone Delivery Network Across the US

This latest expansion introduces Wing’s autonomous flight technology to Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City. The addition of these major metropolitan areas pushes the collaborative footprint of Wing and Walmart to nearly 20 U.S. markets, marking a significant step toward their goal of establishing a massive 270-store delivery network.

Current and Future Flight Paths

Wing is already actively transporting Walmart goods to households in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Greater Houston. Looking ahead, the company has finalized plans to deploy its aerial fleet to several other major hubs, including Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, and Miami.

While Walmart spent years experimenting with various drone technologies, the retail giant solidified its commitment to Wing following highly successful deployments in Texas and Georgia. In January, the retail giant announced a massive scale-up, pledging to integrate on-demand drone services into an additional 150 Walmart stores.

From Tech Novelty to Weekly Routine

Data indicates that drone delivery is rapidly transitioning from a futuristic novelty into a routine convenience. Wing has officially surpassed 1 million commercial deliveries globally, a milestone heavily supported by its Walmart integration.

According to Heather Rivera, Wing’s Chief Business Officer, the service has secured highly loyal users, with the top 25% of customers ordering via drone three times a week. Rivera emphasized that the collaboration proves drone delivery is no longer just a gimmick, but a critical service that suburban and urban customers rely on multiple times every week.
