YouTube megastar MrBeast announced on Monday that his company, Beast Industries, has acquired Step, a prominent financial services app designed for teens, to help younger generations build healthy financial habits.

A Financial Powerhouse Backed by A-List Celebrities

Step, which has raised half a billion dollars in funding and boasts over 7 million users, provides tailored financial services to help Gen Z build credit, save money, and start investing early. The platform has previously attracted high-profile backing from major venture firms like General Catalyst, Coatue, and payment processing giant Stripe. It also features a star-studded list of celebrity investors, including Charli D’Amelio, Will Smith, The Chainsmokers, and Stephen Curry.

Why Beast Industries is Entering the Fintech Space

For a fintech product targeting younger demographics, aligning with a Gen Z icon like MrBeast is a highly strategic move. Jimmy Donaldson, the 27-year-old creator behind the MrBeast brand, is the most-subscribed individual on YouTube with over 466 million subscribers. However, his business aspirations extend far beyond entertainment.

“Nobody taught me about investing, building credit, or managing money when I was growing up,” Donaldson shared. “I want to give millions of young people the financial foundation I never had.”

Expanding Beyond YouTube: MVNOs and Chocolate Empires

This strategic acquisition aligns with a leaked pitch document from last year, which highlighted financial services as a key area of interest for Beast Industries. Additionally, the company is reportedly exploring the launch of a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), aiming to offer budget-friendly cell phone plans similar to Ryan Reynolds’ Mint Mobile.

Beast Industries has consistently diversified its business well beyond traditional YouTube ad revenue, which is largely reinvested directly into video production. The company’s primary driver of profitability is its chocolate brand, Feastables. According to leaked documents reported by Bloomberg, Feastables has proven more profitable than both the main MrBeast YouTube channel and his Prime Video series, “Beast Games.” This success stands in contrast to some of his other food ventures, such as Lunchly and MrBeast Burger, which have faced operational and public relations hurdles.

A Shared Vision for the Future of Gen Z Finance

“We’re excited about how this acquisition is going to amplify our platform and bring more groundbreaking products to Step customers,” Step founder and CEO CJ MacDonald stated regarding the deal.
