Trump Demands US Crypto Strategic Reserve

0

President Donald Trump officially championed the creation of a federal cryptocurrency reserve on Sunday, announcing on Truth Social that assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and Cardano will secure America’s position as the global crypto capital.

Expanding the Digital Asset Stockpile

In a decisive move to reshape national financial policy, Trump declared his intent to establish a U.S. Crypto Strategic Reserve. In a post published Sunday morning on Truth Social, the President stated that this reserve would revitalize an industry recovering from years of aggressive regulatory actions under the previous administration.

“A U.S. Crypto Reserve will elevate this critical industry after years of corrupt attacks by the Biden Administration, which is why my Executive Order on Digital Assets directed the Presidential Working Group to move forward on a Crypto Strategic Reserve that includes XRP, SOL, and ADA,” Trump wrote, pledging to make the United States the undisputed “Crypto Capital of the World.”

Market Surges on Trump’s Endorsement

The market reacted immediately to the presidential endorsement. Following Trump’s initial post, the prices of XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA) spiked by 20% or more. Shortly after, Trump clarified the scope of the proposed reserve in a follow-up post, adding: “And, obviously, BTC and ETH, as other valuable Cryptocurrencies, will be the heart of the Reserve. I also love Bitcoin and Ethereum!”

The Executive Order and Policy Shift

This push builds directly on an executive order signed by Trump in January. The directive mandated the creation of a specialized presidential working group tasked with analyzing digital asset policies and proposing guidelines for “a national digital asset stockpile.”

According to the executive order, this stockpile could leverage assets already in federal possession. The working group is responsible for designing criteria to establish the reserve, potentially utilizing cryptocurrencies legally seized by federal law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations.

A New Regulatory Era for Digital Assets

The proposed strategic reserve represents a sharp departure from the regulatory framework of the Biden administration. Under Trump’s current administration, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has adopted a significantly more permissive approach. The agency recently dismissed its lawsuit against Coinbase and declared that memecoins are not classified as securities. Despite these industry-wide gains, Trump’s personal meme coin, $TRUMP, has experienced a sharp decline, with its value plummeting since his inauguration.

In tandem with his cryptocurrency initiatives, Trump has also signed an executive order to explore the creation of a U.S. sovereign wealth fund, which he previously suggested could be used to fund strategic acquisitions, including the social media platform TikTok.
