Airbnb has launched a pilot test for a new “kitchen stocking” service in partnership with grocery delivery giant Instacart, allowing guests to order food and supplies directly to their rental properties before check-in.

Expanding the ‘Services’ Ecosystem

This new grocery feature represents the latest expansion of Airbnb’s “Services” platform, which originally debuted in May. The initiative enables travelers to book a variety of on-demand conveniences and local experiences—ranging from professional massages and haircuts to private, chef-prepared meals. Notably, these offerings are highly flexible; guests can bundle them with an active lodging reservation or book them entirely independently.

Challenging Travel Giants for Market Share

By expanding into ancillary travel services, Airbnb is positioning itself to compete directly with established industry giants like Tripadvisor, Booking.com, Viator, and GetYourGuide. This strategic pivot is expected to be highly lucrative. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has projected that the new “Services” division will generate $1 billion or more in annual revenue for the company.
