DoorDash Driver Faces Felony for Spraying Customer Food

A Kentucky DoorDash driver faces multiple felony charges in Evansville, Indiana, after allegedly spraying a toxic substance on a customer’s fast-food order on December 7, causing the residents to fall violently ill.

How the Poisoning Was Discovered

According to a press release issued by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began when a local resident reported that he and his wife suffered immediate, severe symptoms after consuming their delivery. The victims experienced an intense burning sensation in their mouths, noses, throats, and stomachs, which quickly resulted in violent vomiting.

Suspicious of the delivery, the husband told NBC News that he noticed an unusual red residue on the food packaging. Upon reviewing his home’s doorbell camera footage, he discovered highly disturbing behavior. The security video showed the delivery driver dropping off the meal, taking the standard confirmation photograph, and then immediately using a small aerosol canister attached to her keychain to spray an unknown substance directly onto the food bag.

The ‘Spider’ Alibi Dismissed by Police

Using digital transaction records provided by DoorDash, detectives quickly identified the driver as Kourtney Stevenson of Kentucky. When contacted by local authorities over the phone, Stevenson claimed she was in the area visiting her father and asserted that she had only used pepper spray to target a spider on the porch.

However, investigators thoroughly debunked this defense. The sheriff’s department noted that temperatures had plummeted to an overnight low of 35 degrees Fahrenheit, making it biologically impossible for active outdoor spiders to be crawling on exposed surfaces in Indiana at that time.

Legal Consequences and DoorDash Response

After Stevenson reportedly refused to meet with detectives for an in-person interview, authorities secured an arrest warrant charging her with consumer product tampering and battery resulting in moderate injury. She is currently in custody awaiting extradition to Indiana to face these felony charges.

In response to the incident, DoorDash immediately terminated the driver’s access to the application. A corporate spokesperson condemned the act, emphasizing that the company maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for such behavior and is actively cooperating with law enforcement’s ongoing criminal investigation.
