Remote Debuts USDC Crypto Payouts for Global Contractors
Global HR platform Remote launched USDC stablecoin payouts for international contractors on Tuesday, partnering with Stripe to offer fast, inflation-resistant payments across 69 countries.
Why Remote is Leveraging USDC Stablecoins
To eliminate the notorious volatility associated with traditional cryptocurrencies, Remote is exclusively supporting USDC at launch. Managed by Circle, USDC is pegged 1:1 to the US Dollar. This peg ensures that both employers and independent contractors can transact globally without worrying about sudden market fluctuations.
Faster Transactions and Inflation Protection
For international talent, receiving payments in USDC offers significant advantages over traditional banking. Transactions are processed on Base—Coinbase’s efficient Layer-2 blockchain—ensuring near-instant processing times and eliminating the risk of funds getting trapped in international banking networks.
Furthermore, holding a USD-denominated asset provides a vital economic safeguard. For contractors living in regions experiencing high inflation or currency devaluation, securing earnings in USDC helps preserve and potentially increase their local purchasing power.
Seamless Spending and Local Conversion
Managing digital earnings is highly flexible. Contractors can easily convert their USDC into local fiat currency, transfer it to a traditional bank account, or hold the balance in a secure digital wallet. Additionally, users can link their wallets to crypto-backed debit cards to spend their stablecoin balance directly at retail locations.
How the Remote Crypto Payout System Works
The onboarding and invoicing workflow remains highly intuitive. When contractors join Remote, they can choose between receiving traditional bank transfers in their local currency or opting for USDC. By selecting the cryptocurrency option, they simply input their digital wallet address and submit invoices as usual.
On the employer side, the process is equally streamlined. Once a company approves an invoice within the Remote dashboard, the platform automatically generates a consolidated payment request and distributes the funds to each contractor via their preferred payout method.
Future Expansion Plans
While the initial rollout targets U.S.-based companies, Remote has plans to expand this feature to employers headquartered in other global regions. Additionally, the platform intends to broaden its cryptocurrency support to include major assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, catering to diverse preferences within the digital asset space.
