Startups Hit $10M ARR in Just 3 Months, Stripe Reveals
On Tuesday, payment processing giant Stripe released its 2025 annual update revealing that the number of new global startups hitting $10 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) within just three months of launch doubled year-over-year, driven by rapid AI adoption and streamlined business creation tools.
The rise of artificial intelligence has introduced a powerful shift in the tech ecosystem: startups that scale to multimillion-dollar ARR almost immediately. Stories of founders scaling from zero to $10 million—or even $100 million—in annual recurring revenue in mere months are transitioning from anomalies into a broader industry trend.
Stripe Report Unveils Unprecedented Startup Velocity
According to Stripe’s annual report, released on Tuesday, the platform welcomed a record number of new businesses in 2025. Over half of these new enterprises—specifically 57%—originated outside the United States. This 2025 cohort scaled 50% faster than the businesses that onboarded in 2024. While Stripe did not disclose absolute figures, it confirmed that 2025 saw twice the number of early-stage startups reach the $10 million ARR milestone within their first 90 days compared to the previous year.
Additionally, Stripe Atlas, the company’s business incorporation tool, saw a 41% year-over-year increase in new company formations. Highlighting the speed of this new generation of entrepreneurs, 20% of these newly incorporated startups charged their first customer within 30 days, a significant increase from the 8% recorded in 2020.
The Venture Capital Dilemma: Is Hyper-Growth Sustainable?
Despite these remarkable milestones, venture capitalists caution that rapid initial monetization does not guarantee long-term market viability. Investors emphasize that durable, sustainable growth remains far more critical than short-term speed. For VCs, the priority lies in backing enterprises with high customer retention and low churn rates, ensuring that recurring revenue remains stable and continues to scale rather than experiencing a sudden collapse.
Rewriting the Startup Playbook
From Years to Months
To put this shift into perspective, founders in 2024 were actively publicly celebrating hitting $10 million in ARR over a three-year span—a timeline traditionally considered highly impressive.
The Rise of Lean, AI-Native Teams
The latest data lends serious credibility to ongoing discussions across social media platforms. Industry observers have been pointing out that bootstrapping to $10 million in ARR is becoming a highly viable, lower-risk alternative to building a traditional VC-backed unicorn. Additionally, others are highlighting how lean, AI-native teams consisting of just three people are successfully generating $10 million in ARR, effectively rewriting the rules of modern software entrepreneurship.
