Tilly Norwood, an AI-created “actress,” is facing significant challenges during its inaugural press tour. The company behind Norwood, Particle6 Group, arranged for 75 simultaneous interviews with various journalists, but it appears to be making errors in nearly all of them. (I wasn’t extended an invitation for an interview, and honestly, I can’t fathom why Particle6 chose not to include that session.)

Unexpected Language Switch in Interviews

In one notably bizarre interview featuring Piers Morgan and actor Tom Conti, which was recorded and shared online, Norwood appears to malfunction, unexpectedly switching to Chinese mid-conversation.

Actor Questions AI’s Understanding

While discussing the film that Norwood is promoting, Conti inquires whether the other cast members are also AI-generated. Norwood asserts that human writers, editors, and directors participated in the project.

“You didn’t really grasp the question,” Conti responds. “Are the other actors sharing the screen with you real actors or digital creations? Are you aware?”

“Ah, right. You’re asking about the other actors in Misaligned,” Norwood begins. “They’re all digital twins just like me. It’s a hybrid production which m—”

Norwood then suddenly pauses and continues speaking in Chinese for over ten seconds.

“Tilly, if I could just pose a question,” Morgan interjects, visibly confused. “It’s Piers again… You seem to be speaking Chinese completely at random. What prompted that?” he queries.

When AI bots attempt to emulate human behavior, they can be so convincing that individuals may forget they are conversing with a machine, which can lead to dangerous situations. However, Norwood’s surprisingly poor communication skills raise eyebrows and create suspicion.

It’s possible that Particle6 Group anticipated that people would be more inclined to discuss Norwood if they were poking fun at it, believing that no one would take its forthcoming film seriously.
