Spotify Unveils Major Podcast Expansion to 35 Countries
Spotify is launching an extensive expansion of its podcast partner program, enabling podcasters to monetize their content through ad and Premium revenue sharing in 35 new regions, including Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas this fall.
Podcasters who meet eligibility criteria will have the opportunity to generate income from both video and audio formats — video impressions from Premium subscribers will contribute to their revenue, alongside ad revenue from free listeners of the show. Additionally, Spotify allows podcasters to distribute their content across other platforms while retaining all sponsorship earnings.
Previously, Spotify’s partner podcast program was limited to the U.S., Europe, and Australia, making this the most significant geographical expansion for the service to date.
The streaming giant reported that video podcast consumption on its platform has surged by 140% since the feature’s introduction in 2022, with total monthly payouts to creators increasing by one-third since January.
Earlier this year, Spotify revised its eligibility requirements for monetizing video podcasts. Creators can now apply if they have at least three episodes available, a minimum of 2,000 consumption hours, and 1,000 engaged listeners over the past 30 days. This adjustment has reportedly boosted consumption rates in participating shows by an average of 45%.
